| Beartic(Strategy written by PoisonX)Abilities: Snow CloakSwift SwimStats: HP: 95 Atk: 110 Def: 80 SpA: 70 SpD: 80 Spe: 50 Total: 485 Placed Tier: (NU) Tiers In Which Usability Is Covered In This Analysis: (NU), (Ubers) Type: IceBeartic is somewhat of a mixed bag of a pokemon, generally rarely finding usage outside of NU. Beartic, while seemingly outclassed by numerous pokemon such as Mamoswine, actually has a unique niche as a powerful Swift Swim abuser in Ubers. Mainly due to it's good offensive STAB, great movepool and strong attack stats. If underestimated, Beartic can speed through and slice down the competition with its powerful sets. Of course, Beartic is not without his weaknesses, when not using the Swift Swim ability. Beartic is dreadfully slow, and his defensive typing is terrible. Despite 95 / 80 / 80 defenses. However, through both advantages and disadvantages, one should still take a look at Beartic when considering a strong sweeper. Uber Set #1: (Swift Swim)Item: Focus Sash Ability: Swift Swim EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Speed Nature: Jolly ( + Speed, - Special Attack ) Moveset:- Swords Dance
- Superpower / Low Kick
- Stone Edge / Shadow Claw
- Ice Punch / Icicle Crash
Set Explanation:
Beartic may seem like it doesn't have the power to take on ubers, but on the contrary thanks to Swift Swim, it's one of the fastest sweepers in the tier, and counters numerous pokemon, namely Dialga. Simply switch in after a pokemon of yours has been taken down, then use swords dance. The reason we are using focus sash instead of life orb or leftovers is because while Beartic's defensive stats may be decent, his defensive typing is terrible, and those defenses aren't strong enough to handle super effective attacks from ubers bar a few of them. A Swords Dance'd Superpower is enough to OHKO Dialga that isn't bold or impish natured, along with OHKO'ing Darkrai, Excadrill and Ferrothorn. You could use Low Kick as an alternative if you don't like the attack drop since the majority of ubers is filled with heavy pokemon, but you're better off using Superpower. Stone Edge is mainly meant for if you're having problems with Ho-Oh and Reshiram, as Ho-Oh will be OHKO'd and Reshiram will range from an OHKO to a 2HKO depending on the set. As an alternative, you could use Shadow Claw for super effective damage on Mewtwo and the Deoxys forms. As for the final slot, it's simple an accuracy vs power argument. I prefer to go with Ice Punch because Beartic can't afford to miss and take a hit, but if you want a bit of extra power, feel free to go with Icicle Crash, either way, these take care of a majority of the dragons in the tier. Uber Set #2: (Subpunchswim)Item: Leftovers Ability: Swift Swim EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Speed Nature: Adamant ( + Attack, - Special Attack ) Moveset:- Swords Dance / Shadow Claw / Stone Edge
- Focus Punch
- Icicle Crash
- Substitute
Set Explanation:
This set works predominately the same as the previous set, however in the case of this set, we take advantage of his speed to be able to set up a substitute. Focus Punch hits many pokemon in the tier hard with 150 base power, namely Arceus, as it is 2HKO'd by Focus Punch, OHKO'd sometimes with a Swords Dance Boost. Icicle Crash is there for a powerful STAB move that can take out multiple pokemon in the tier such as Rayquaza. Swords Dance is for those who want to take risks and boost up behind a sub, mostly on this set it's somewhat of a gimmick. Shadow Claw is better for coverage and so is Stone Edge, whichever one you choose depends on what you need Beartic to counter. NU Set #1: (Bulk Up)Item: Leftovers Ability: Snow Cloak EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Def Nature: Jolly ( + Speed, - Special Attack ) Moveset:- Bulk Up
- Brick Break / Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
- Shadow Claw / Bulldoze
Set Explanation:Beartic is a powerful abuser of Bulk Up in NU, with decent defensive stats and the defense boost to somewhat overcome it's horrid defensive typing, Beartic hits a lot of NU pokemon hard. Namely Absol, Exeggutor and Gardevoir. The first three choices are fairly straightforward, however the last moveslot is an interesting piece. Using Bulldoze we could take advantage of it's ability to slow pokemon down, and thus after surviving a hit, be able to take down a pokemon by being faster (in this case you might want to invest a few extra EVs in speed and remove some from HP). Shadow Claw however has more power and better coverage and an increased critical hit ratio. Alternatively you could run Stone Edge with Bulldoze for an inferior version of the EdgeQuake combo (sadly Beartic didn't get EQ). Counters to Beartic (Ubers):No Shadow Claw: No Stone Edge: Full Time Counters: Checks: Counters to Beartic (NU):Counters: Gigalith, Lairon, Gurdurr, Alomomola, Emboar, Machoke, Rampardos, Rapidash, Regirock, Simisear, Torkoal.
