Arcanine started out in the good ol days of RBY,and for every generation transition it only got better.Now in BW2 Arcanine now has lots of new moves to try and new enemies to face,but it doesn't stop it from being one of the best Fire types out there. With its all around stats giving Arcanine of mix balance and power,and whn combined with its unpredictable move pool,Arcanine is sure to find a way onto someones team.

Set #1:MixedCanine

Item:Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability:Flash Fire
EVs:196 ATK / 252 SATK / 64 SPE
Nature: RASH

- Flamethrower / Fire Blast / Over Heat
- Hidden Power Grass
- Extreme Speed
- Crunch / Close Combat / Morning Sun

Set Explanation:Like most of the Arcanine sets,its unpredictable until the last second,and can easily score some KOs due to this. Flamethrower is always a good STAB move,but can be swapped for Fire Blast for more power but less accuracy,or even Over Heat,which may cause the opponent to think you are setup bait and try to switch in. Hidden Power Grass does great amount of damage to Swampert and Slowbro,making sure they don't stay on the field for to long.Extreme speed is for revenge killing purposes.Crunch can be used to hit Chandelure,while Close Combat hurts Snorlax and Porygon2. Morning Sun can be used to recover health lost from Life Orb and Stealth Rock Damage.
The EVs allow to outspeed slower things like Adamant Honchcrow while still having the offensive power. While threats like Swampert and Slowbro are not as dangerous,Milotic and Suicune can still take a hit and easily counter attack with a STAB Water move,also things like Flygon can easily uses Earthquake on arcanine as long as they can live a Extreme Speed.

Set #2:Offensive

Item:Life Orb / Lum Berry
Ability:Flash Fire
EVs: 80 HP / 252 ATK / 176 SPE
Nature: Jolly

- Flare Blitz
- Extreme Speed
- Wild Charge / Close Combat
- Crunch / Outrage / Morning Sun

Set Explanation: This set has the power and speed so it can be used as a good sweeper. This set also has great coverage,something that Arcanine is certainly gifted with. Flare Blitz is the main STAB move here and does tremendous amounts of damage,but has the side effect of recoil. Extreme Speed is used for finishing off low health pokes. Wild Charge can be used against things like Slowbro and Miltotic,but if you already have somethingf to hit them you can use Close Combat,which hits Snorlax and Porygon2. Crunch hurts all Chandelure,but Arcanine was gifted with a new move,Outrage,which can be used to hit Kingdra and Hydreigon as well as incoming Flygon. Morning Sun can be used to recover health.
The EVS allow Arcanine to switch into Stealth Rocks more easily while at the same time having the power it needs to sweep. The speed EVs allow Arcanine to outspeed Modest Hydreigon,Nidoking,and Heracross that isn't Scarfed.


Conclusion
While it does have great coverage,a nice pick of moves and a somewhat good typing,Arcanine still has some notable counters. Slowbro can easily stop any Arcanine that doesn't carry Wild Charge or Hidden Power Grass,as well as other Bulky Waters like Milotic and Suicune. Flygon can also switch in and Earthquake as long as it has high enough health to survive a Extreme Speed. Rhyperior can take nearly all arcanine without Hidden Power Grass and counter with Rock /Blast or Earthquake.
Arcanine usually needs Rapid Spin support as well as something to take on its counters. Hydreigon can take any Water attack and fears nothing from slowbro,and happens to be one of the best wall breakers in UU. Other options could be to have Spikes and Stealth Rocks on the opponents field,which can greatly help Arcanine sweep. So with its good coverage and moves,Arcanine always can find a spot on someones team with ease as long as its threats are in check.
